Korea lies in the northeastern part of the Asian continent. It is located between 33 degrees and 43 degrees in Northern Latitude, and 124 degrees and 132 degrees in Eastern Longitude. China , Russia , and Japan are adjacent to Korea . Local time is nine hours ahead of GMT. Korean Culture has blossomed over its 5,000-year long history. Its rich cultural heritage reflects the influence of various Asian cultures on the creative Korean spirit. The outstanding cultural heritage is evidenced by its arts and crafts, and beautiful places and temples. Seoul is both the capital and the heart of the Republic of Korea , and is its financial, political, commercial, recreational, educational, and cultural center. There is a rich and satisfying variety of things to see and do for residents and visitors alike.
Korea has four distinct seasons. Spring and autumn are rather short, summer is hot and humid, and winter is cold and dry with abundant snowfall. Temperatures differ widely from region to region within Korea, with the average being between 6 ¡É (43 ¢µ ) and 16 ¡É (61 ¢µ ). The average temperature in August, the hottest period of the year, ranges from 19 ¡É (66 ¢µ ) to 27 ¡É (81 ¢µ ), while in January, the coldest month, temperatures range from -8 ¡É (17 ¢µ ) to 7 ¡É (43 ¢µ )
The currency unit is the Korean Won (KRW). Coins come in denominations of KRW 10, KRW 50,KRW 100 and KRW 500, and notes come in denominations of KRW 1,000, KRW 5,000 and KRW 10,000. The exchange rate is subject to fluctuations, but USD 1 is equivalent to about KRW 1,100 as of November. KRW 1,100 as of November 2004.Foreign currency and Traveler's Checks can be converted into Korean Won at most banks in Korea. Credit cards are acceptable at most hotels, department stores and restaurant.

The standard voltage is 220 volts, but outlets for 110 volts are available at most hotels.
